The Simple Saver

We saw this on face book recently.  Admittedly we scoffed and thought it would be impossible. Anyway it got the better of us so we had to take up the challenge.

And here it is:

Take one empty 600ml bottle of Coke and fill it with Australian $2.00 coins.

When this bottle is full it will contain $1000.

We estimate that there is about $700 in our bottle at the moment, and it is about three quarters full.

Will this bottle fit another $300 in?  We think it will go very close.

I will keep you posted.

I am unsure if my overseas friends can try this experiment as I am not familiar with your currency.

Why not give it a try?  A great way to save a little extra J

  5. Good luck Lynda!

I wonder who actually tried this out to find that $1000 in $2 coins fits in the bottle. Hope we haven't been had lol!

  6. I think it has something to do with the shape of the bottle Nanna Chel. It stated that a 600ml coke bottle is what is required. We don't drink coke either, but we collect cans and bottles from around the place because they are worth 10c each here in South Australia. Good pocket money :)

  7. It would appear that this has been around for a long time. I just read that a 2ltr bottle will hold $2500 worth of $2 coins. Maybe that can be my next challenge ;)

  9. Really? Ok I am doing this! What a great emergency fund! I will use a soda water bottle... I hope it still works. I also wonder how long it will take me?
Good one Tania thank you, this is a fun one but a good idea! xxx

  10. Dear Annabel, this is definitely a great idea for an emergency fund. I presume any bottle would work, but the total at the end may vary :)

  11. I have a jar that I empty all my coins into every week. It is amazing how they add up! Except that I never seem to get them to the bank to put them in the savings account! I will have to try this one out though - it seems to fit more than my Nescafe jar.

  12. We have a couple of the big savings tins from the cheap shop that we put our coins into. Less likely to break into them then. And yes they do add up. We use ours for something special like a holiday :)
